Beautiful Barnstable featured in New Picture Histories

Stephen Robert Lovell Farrar and the Barnstable Historical Society

Two new picture books show a history of life in the town of Barnstable. We find images from when this region was mostly farmingcountry; ponds, gristmills and grazing cows, and we learn about cranberry harvests and people going off to sea. Stephen Robert Lovell Farrar, author of Images of Barnstable, from the Barnstable Historical Society, and James Gould, co-author with Vivian Cushing of Images of America Marstons Mills discuss the books with Mindy Todd on the Point. The Town of Barnstable was established in the early 1600’s and over time seven distinct villages were established- Barnstable, Centerville, Cotuit, Hyannis, Marstons Mills, Osterville and West Barnstable.
