Exploring Options for Adults with Developmental Disabilities

For parents of children with developmental disabilities a question that haunts many is: what will happen to my child when I’m gone? Who will watch over him or her? Where will my child live? Can he or she hold a job? Today we discuss options for personal, financial and health care decision making as children with developmental disabilities come of age.

Joining Mindy Todd in the studio is Susan Senator. She is the mother of three boys. Her adult son Nat was diagnosed with autism at age 3. Her books include Making Peace with Autism, The Autism Mom’s Survival Guide and her latest book is Autism Adulthood: Insights and Creative Strategies for a Fulfilling Life. Also in studio is Attorney Fred Misilo, considered one of the nation’s leading elder law and special needs attorneys, he focuses on the areas of elder law, special needs planning, estate planning and trust administration, guardianship and adult service advocacy. You can find information about a seminarthat will place at Mr. Miliso's law office, Fletcher Tilton, how to administer a special needs trust.
