False albacore – or albies – are built for speed. They surface here briefly, then disappear, then re-surface way over there. So why would you go fishing for them from a kayak?
For the thrill and the challenge, obviously.
This week, the Fishing News speaks with Kevin Blinkoff, editor at On The Water magazine and a dedicated kayak fisherman. He's got tips for how to set yourself up for success when targeting albies from a kayak. He also gives a nice description of the excitement of hooking up with an albie from right down at water level - which may convince you this is the great way to go for the funny fish.
Face it, fishing from your center console you don't have the fun of maybe getting towed, or flipped, by that fish at the end of your line.
Also in this week's Fishing News, we round up the fishing action - with a special nod to the offshore action, which has really been sparking. It's all in the audio posted above: 4 minutes of fishing talk for Cape Cod and the Islands. Give it a listen.
And here's a link to Kevin's detailed articleon albie fishing from a kayak, with plenty more good info in it.
