The impact of technology on our health

janellburleyhofmann.com

A study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association Pediatrics found that 12 and 13 year old children doubled their non-school related screen time to nearly 8 hours a day in May of 2020 compared to 4 hours a day pre-pandemic. The study also found children of color and those from lower income families spent more hours on screens that white and wealthier children. While those figures are alarming, they’re not surprising. It’s likely all of us have increased our screen time since the start of the pandemic. What are the impacts of increased screen time on our health? How do we create guidelines around tech use that foster healthy habits and keep kids safe online?
On The Point, we talk withJanell Burley Hofmann, author of iRules: What Every Tech-Health Family Needs to Know About Selfies, Sexting, Gaming and Growing Up. Hoffman has written and spoken extensively on digital mindfulness, digital parenting and the intentional use of technology.
