In the Eyes of the Beholder: The Arts Can Reignite Expression in Dementia Patients

Annie Kiyonaga

A dementia diagnosis sometimes feels like an ending. For Nikki Alexander, though, a dementia diagnosis for her father was just the beginning. She realized that art – talking about, interacting with and creating it – had the power to connect with her father. Now, here on Cape Cod, she’s harnessing that same power with local Alzheimers and dementia patients through an innovative program called “Color Me Creative.”

"Color Me Creative" takes place on the first Friday of every month at the Cape Cod Museum of Art. To learn more, and to read about the museum’s other “Art & Alzheimers” programs, visit their website.
