Poetry Sunday: Kathleen Baker

May 27, 2018

Kathleen reads her poem, "Remembering When Victory Was Possible."

Kathleen has been a poet on Cape Cod since 1975, mostly with Salt Winds Poets where they gave regular readings around the Cape including First Nights Chatham and Orleans. She loves written word for the worlds it opens, and, poetry for its concentrated form of expression which then blossoms in the reader’s mind. Her favorite poetry memory is Stanley Kunitz’s spontaneous reading at the reception for The Wild Braid in Provincetown. He was almost 100, "so frail–looking, but his voice as he was reading his works was strong and clear. He was projecting such vitality through his poetry," says Kathleen. "That never dies."
