Protecting Our Skin from Strong Spring Sun Rays

J. Junker

It’s spring and many of us are spending more time outdoors enjoying the warmer days and increased daylight. Being outside is good for our physical and emotional well-being, especially as we adjust to changes brought on by the pandemic. But it pays to enjoy the outdoors wisely: we’re not talking about social distancing guidelines, but limiting our exposure to harmful U.V. ray and reducing our risk of skin cancer.

In the midst of summer applying sunscreen might be part of your routine, but have you applied it yet this year? According to the E.P.A. the U.V. index in May for our region is about the same as the U.V. index in August.

We talk about sun safety on The Point with Dr. Peter Hopewood, surgeon at Cape Cod Healthcare.

Here are links to more information on preventing skin cancer.
