Welcoming LGBTQ into Faith Communities

waterwomensalliance.org

Historically, churches and synagogues have not been viewed as inclusive places for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender people.  But that perception is beginning to change, for both religious and LGBT Communities.  On The Point, we discuss the inclusion of LGBT individuals into faith communities. Mindy Todd hosts these guests in the studio: Dr. Mary Hunt, feminist theologian, Catholic activist, and co-founder of the Women’s Alliance for Theology, Ethics, and Ritual (WATER); and Rabbi Elias Lieberman from the Falmouth Jewish Congregation.

Here’s a link to the Cape Cod Coalition of Coalition of Welcoming Congregations.  It’s a group of individuals from many faith traditions and practices gathering for spiritual support, inclusion, and education to widen the welcome of LGBT persons and their families on the Cape.  Also, here’s more information about the upcoming LGBTQ & Friends Conference mentioned on the program.  The event is scheduled for Friday, September 30 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Harwich. The church is located at 310 Route 137 (exit 11).
