Wampanoag Language Project Empowers Tribal Peoples

The Wampanoag language, once widely spoken in our area, disappeared during the mid 19th century. There were no fluent speakers of the language for six generations; over 150 years. Now, a Wampanoag language immersion charter school has been proposed. The school would imbed Native American culture and language within the state curriculum standards. Jennifer Weston, the coordinator for the Wampanoag Language Reclamation project, joins Mindy Todd on The Point to talk about the project.
