In years past, a traditional gap year experience entailed students taking a year off between high school and college, donning a backpack and trekking through Europe. Nowadays there’s an industry devoted to creating and selling gap year packages. If you can afford it, there are options to travel almost anywhere on the globe with opportunities to sight-see, party, volunteer or do a combination of all three.
Those interested in making the most of a year between high school and college might be interested in Chris Wingard’s choice. The Nauset High School honors student was admitted as a fellow with Global Citizen Year. Fellows in the program are sent to one of three countries where they live with host families and work as apprentices in schools, hospitals, or on various development programs.
Chris Wingard joins Mindy Todd on The Point to talk more about his upcoming year as a Fellow with Global Citizen Year. And on the phone from the west coast, Abby Falik, founder and CEO of Global Citizen Year.
