Provincetown is poised to become the first town on Cape Cod to have a retail marijuana store. On Thursday, the company Curaleaf, of Wakefield, Massachusetts, announced it had received final approval for a storefront on Commercial Street. Massachusetts began permitting marijuana retail stores in November 2018, but Cape towns have been slow to adopt the legislation. Many towns have either deferred approval or voted to ban retail stores entirely.  This means in many ways Provincetown's store will serve as an example for others.

The first recreational marijuana store for the South Coast opened its doors to customers on Friday. It's the state's fourth recreational store, and it's the closest store for Cape Cod residents.

Cape Cod’s first medical marijuana dispensary is scheduled to open in Mashpee in the next few days, five years after voters legalized medical marijuana in Massachusetts. The company behind the dispensary is “Triple M,” which operates an existing dispensary and cultivation center in Plymouth. WCAI’s Sarah Tan visited the Plymouth site to get an idea of what’s to come.
