Water quality issues can impact people’s lives – and livelihoods – on the Cape and Islands. We’ve seen that most recently with the rounds of shellfish closures. Now there's a website that shows water quality data from around the region.

Dr. Amy Costa is Director of the Cape Cod Bay Monitoring Program at the Center for Coastal Studies. Their website, launched in the spring, shares water quality data and potential threats for Cape Cod Bay and Vineyard and Nantucket Sounds. It shows data from more than 150 sites around the region. Many of the samples are being collected by citizen scientists. Anyone can access the data, which are being used by scientists and by school groups.

Dr. Costa discusses the website and what we can learn from it in the conversation below with Steve Junker of WCAI's All Things Considered. Give it a listen.
