The Cape, the South Coast and the Islands continue to get pummeled with snow and wind, but so far power outages have been limited.
The winter storm is dumping heavy snow, with strong winds threatening blizzard conditions in some areas. The storm is not expected to end until the nighttime hours, with the National Weather Service in Tuanton calling for a foot of snow or more across our region before it's all over.
The snow will be heaviest in the next few hours, and the winds could gusts between 45-65 mph.
So far, the most power outages were in Orleans, where nearly 200 people were without power for a period this morning. By 11:45 a.m., that number was down to about 35 Eversource customers.
On the islands, Nantucket has just a few scattered outages reported, and so far none being reported on the Vineyard. However, there are reports of some flooding in downtown Nantucket.
On the South Coast, most communities have a few people without power. The notable exception is Freetown, where nearly 200 people are without power. But again, according to Eversource, outages are mostly in the single digits in the South Coast towns.
Also, one piece of traffic news to report. According to the State Police, the onramp to Route 25 from the rotary in Buzzards Bay has been closed due to a jack-knifed tractor trailer. That ramp is expected to reopen soon.
The snow is forecast to decrease by late afternoon and taper off into light snow through midnight.
