State lawmakers approved a measure last week to create an advisory panel that will work with Pilgrim Nuclear Power Plant owner, Entergy, when it permanently shuts down the plant by 2019.
Plymouth Senator Vinny deMacedo, Harwich Senator Dan Wolf, and Provincetown Representative Sarah Peake spearheaded the measure. Despite their support, there aren't any seats on the panel for Cape residents. Kathryn Eident talked with Representative Sarah Peake by cell phone about whether that will change, and about the power the panel will have to influence the decommissioning process.
The panel should start work next year. Pilgrim Nuclear Power Plant is scheduled to close by 2019.
