On an early December morning in 2016 the daily routine for a commercial fishing vessel was upended for one New Bedford crew by an unusual catch. What they found would spark an investigation by the state police and cause two very old traditions to collide.

This piece came to us from our production partners at Atlantic Public Media through their media training program, The Transom Story Workshop in Woods Hole. Andy Short is a graduate of the workshop and you can find out more about that program at Transom.org
