A 30-day comment period began Monday, Nov. 1, for the federal environmental review of Mayflower Wind.
The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management plans to hold three virtual public hearings this month — on Nov. 10, 15, and 18.
Written comments received by Dec. 1, along with material from the hearings, will be used to inform an environmental impact statement on the project.
Mayflower is the second offshore wind project selected for a contract with Massachusetts electric companies, following Vineyard Wind.
Mayflower Wind would be located about 30 miles south of Martha’s Vineyard and 23 miles south of Nantucket.
The project plans to connect power to the grid in Falmouth and Brayton Point in Somerset.
The contract calls for 804 megawatts, but Mayflower’s federal application could grant the company approval for about three times that.
Mayflower has submitted multiple bids for the third round of Massachusetts contracts.
