A pop-up market at the Rotch-Jones-Duff House in New Bedford Saturday will showcase Black-owned businesses from across the South Coast.
Justina Perry heads BuyBlackNB, which organized the event. She said Black business owners in the region have faced barriers like limited access to capital and mentorship, and this market will be a chance to support those owners.
“So many opportunities have been limited for black business owners, including access to capital and mentorship. So we want to be able to uplift this community and celebrate this unique and diverse group of business owners,” said Perry.
“We'll be there serving food, selling products and just creating a space for people who are passionate about supporting Black-owned businesses,” she said.
The event will include live music and entertainment for kids.
The market will run from 9 AM to 1 PM Saturday at the Rotch-Jones-Duff House on County Street in New Bedford.
In addition to the market, BuyBlackNB convenes a monthly online discussion series, HERstory, to share the stories of local Black businesswomen. The next HERstory series event is on September 22. More info available on BuyBlackNB’s website.
