False Albacore Showing Up in Big Numbers, Making for Great Fishing

There is some wildly good fishing going on now, mostly thanks to the abundance of bait in the water – especially all that peanut bunker. We’re seeing albies on the south side, bluefish in Buzzards Bay, and striped bass in Cape Cod Bay and the Canal. And some spectacular blitzes are popping up, especially for false albacore.

When albies are on bait like this, they lose a lot of their characteristic pickiness and are willing to hit larger lures. You can see a great video of an albie blitz here.

Kevin Blinkoff, of On The Water magazine, talks about the furious albie fishing going on at the moment, and rounds up the fishing action for the region. Audio is posted below – give it a listen.
