Learn more about what's going on in the world of astronomy as WCAI's "All Things Considered" host Brian Morris speaks with Dr. Regina Jorgenson, Director of Astronomy at the Maria Mitchell Association on Nantucket.

Topics include:

* An asteroid exploded over the Bering Straits in December of 2018 but wasn’t detected until recently; the explosion was captured by a Japanese weather satellite.

* A possible “gas station in space” - scientists may believe it may someday be possible to refuel rockets in space by mining hydrogen and oxygen - two key components of rocket fuel - from water contained in asteroids.

* Scientists believe meteor fragments recovered several years ago in Turkey may have originally crashed into an asteroid about 22-million years ago.
