Brewster voters back Sea Camps purchase in a landslide

Brewster voters said yes to the purchase of the Cape Cod Sea Camps yesterday, a more than 100-acre property with beach-front views. Over 3,000 residents cast a ballot in Brewster yesterday; that's about 40 percent of the town's registered voters.

The vote was a landslide. Nine out of 10 voters supported the 20-million dollar funding request.

Town officials say the property could be used for recreation like sailing and swimming and that parts of the land could also be preserved as open space and set aside for affordable housing.

Property taxes will go up slightly with the purchase. A home valued at $500,000 will go up about $125.
