Dave Masch, Naturalist, Columnist, "Pops" - and so much more

Jay Allison

It is with sadness that we note the passing of Dave Masch. His voice will be familiar to many listeners of WCAI, where vignettes of his musings and anecdotes have aired since the earliest days of the station. Originally from Detroit, Dave came east to attend Harvard College and fell in love with the sea. He helped to found the Penikese Island School, where he described his role as a "professional father figure" and acquired the fond nickname "Pops." A naturalist, an educator, a fisherman, a columnist for On The Water magazine, a cookbook author, a raconteur... his interests and accomplishments were many.

Our thoughts go out to his family.
