The Rise of Tourism on Martha’s Vineyard

J. Junker

Tourism is so entwined with the present day identity of the Cape and Islands that we may not have stopped to wonder, when did we evolve from a fishing and whaling economy to a tourist economy? What prompted the start of tourism and how has it changed over the last century? On The Point, we talk with Tom Dresser about his latest book The Rise of Tourism on Martha’s Vineyard which gives us the answers to these questions, plus the backstory of the people and events that shaped tourism on the island.
