Hospice and palliative care are relatively new to the field of medicine. The concept of providing specialized care for dying patients, and linking pain and symptom control with compassionate care, began in England in the 1950’s. Today hospice can even provide supports and services for a dying patient’s family. On The Point, we talk about end of life care, but not with hospice caregivers. Instead our guests are two fourth year medical students who both experienced the loss of a loved one during the pandemic. Their stories are part of the podcast Firsts about first time medical experiences.
Tino Delamerced is the producer of the series and Lindsey Pileika is the narrator of the episode about Hospice. Both are rising fourth-year students at the Alpert Medical School of Brown University.
