Provincetown group offers pandemic mental-health support
Provincetown residents this week joined the first in a series of support-group discussions about the pandemic's effect on their mental health.
The Provincetown COVID-19 Task Force is hosting Zoom meetings on Monday nights through March. Led by Elspeth Slayter of Provincetown and Jeff Driskell, both professors at the School of Social Work at Salem State University, the sessions are in response to the Surgeon General's advisory in December that the pandemic is fueling a national mental-health crisis for families.
"We hope that this space will be one where you can feel community, one where you can perhaps build some skills to take care of yourself but also to share how you're feeling," Slayter said during the group’s first session on Monday. "While I love the winters here — more than the summers, actually — I do have my blue moments in the winter. And I certainly have had my moments of COVID isolation, so I'm psyched for this support group, too."
The weekly meetings are free and open to the public.
