Sandwich is getting ready to name a new superintendent of schools, possibly next week.
There are three finalists for the position. One works in a large public district, one in a public charter school, and another at an early education and youth center — all off-Cape.
They will interview in public with the Sandwich School Committee on Wednesday.
The committee could make a choice right away or postpone the vote until a future date, chairman Don DiGiacomo said.
“The hope, frankly, is that it just becomes really obvious and we're able to make a decision that evening,” he said.
The finalists are Jennifer Curtis, executive director of South Shore Stars, an early education and youth center in Weymouth; Joseph Maruszczak, superintendent of Nuestro Mundo Public Charter School in Providence; and June Saba-Maguire, chief academic officer of the Brockton Public Schools.
DiGiacomo said the committee is interested in new perspectives the candidates may bring to Sandwich from their varied experiences.
“We’ve loved having Dr. Gould as our superintendent, but we've always got to keep moving forward,” he said. “And the idea is, you can always get better.”
Superintendent Pam Gould plans to leave the position at the end of the school year.
A community survey identified communication and transparency as the top qualities people are looking for in a new superintendent, DiGiacomo said.
He said the pool of applicants was strong. Twenty-one people applied, and seven went through a preliminary interview.
