With warmer weather, the Cape, Coast and Islands are seeing the return of many migrating birds. Ospreys are back, and hummingbirds will be here soon. Year-round birds are also gearing up for the nesting season with great intensity. Mark Faherty just returned from a trip to Tanzania, and he shares his experiences with animals he encountered there (see slide show). Mark is a wildlife biologist at Wellfeet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary. We hear about various nests being built, bird songs to listen for at this time of year, and sightings of interest in our region. Mindy Todd hosts.
Mark Faherty will be at the upcoming learning series "Spring is for the Birds: Natural History and Conservation of Birds on Cape Cod" on April 12 from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the Eldredge Public Libary in Chatham. Learn about songbird migration and banding research.
Here's a link to a video about birdwatching in Central Park, NYC, as mentioned on the show...
