WCAI's Local News Roundup: Region still digging out an assessing damage from Blizzard of 2015
WCAI News Director Sean Corcoran and local journalists review the top regional news stories of the week. Sean's guests include Gwenn Friss, an editor at The Cape Cod Times; Cape Cod Chronicle Editor Tim Wood; Nelson Sigelman, editor of the Martha's Vineyard Times; Joshua Balling, assistant editor of the Nantucket Inquirer and Mirror; and New Bedford Standard Times Editorial Page Editor Jim DeArruda.
This week's roundup includes lengthy discussions with editors about preparation for the storm, as well as how the area faired during and after the blizzard. Officials are still assessing damage, but it's clear there was some coastal damage. The Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station also was shutdown during an emergency situation during the storm. Other stories include an effort to ban plastic shopping bags in Harwich; the federal government auctioned off two parcels of ocean space south of Martha's Vineyard for offshore wind turbines; Chatham is looking to impose a waterways user fee; and high school dropout rates are falling.
