Charter schools are public schools, but there are differences in how they are structured, funded, and overseen. On The Point, we talk with educators and public school administrators about why charter schools got started in Massachusetts, how they’ve evolved over the past two decades, and some of the distinctions between the public school and charter school models.

Guests on the program are as follows:

Jeff Wulfson, Deputy Commissioner at the MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education

Tim Nicolette, Executive Director of the Massachusetts Charter Public School Association

Merrie Najimy, President of the Massachusetts Teachers Association

Dr. Chris Martell, Clinical Associate Professor at Boston University’s Wheelock School of Education

Dr. Pamela Gould, Superintendent at Sandwich Public School

Paul Marble, Executive Director of Sturgis Charter Public School

Mindy Todd is the host and producer of The Point on WCAI which examines critical issues for Cape Cod and the Islands. She brings more than 30 years of experience in radio and television to WCAI.
