Agents of U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement were operating on both islands Tuesday, detaining individuals and leaving the communities shaken.

After at least one Falmouth resident was taken by immigration authorities last week, a local activist group is trying to spread the word about immigrant rights.

Juan Francisco Méndez’s case gained national attention when a video of the arrest circulated online. The video shows a federal agent smashing Méndez’s car window to arrest him.

Though his case was dismissed, a migrant arrested by federal agents in New Bedford last month remains in detention in New Hampshire.

After his arrest in New Bedford, the immigrant from Guatemala was detained for nearly a month in New Hampshire, but the US government never charged him with any crimes.

CAI spoke to freelance journalist Gerardo Beltrán Salinas, who has been on the ground covering the raids in New Bedford for the past several weeks.

Mitchell heralded the city’s accomplishments, but also touched upon some of its challenges, including the cost of housing and the Trump administration’s effort to at least temporarily stop the construction of new offshore wind farms.

The state’s emergency shelter system will reach its capacity limit by the end of the month and Massachusetts will no longer be able to guarantee shelter for newly arriving migrants, Gov. Maura Healey said Monday.

“The number one issue for most of our members, over the last three summers, has really been labor supply issues,” said Paul Niedzwiecki, CEO of the chamber.

Yarmouth Town Administrator Bob Whritenour said the state informed the town Monday that migrants had been sent to the motel over the weekend. He said some of the families have young children.
