The state fire marshal said an investigation is ongoing after the floor collapsed in the Sap House building on site.

Six people were taken to the hospital after a floor collapsed at the Preserve at Chocorua event venue in Tamworth Saturday afternoon, the New Hampshire Fire Marshal said.

According to its website, the Preserve at Chocorua is a 26-acre estate that has several buildings available to rent for weddings and other events.

The people who were hospitalized did not experience any life-threatening injuries, according to the fire marshal’s office.

In a statement, the fire marshal's office said the floor of the Sap House building at the venue collapsed at the start of a wedding ceremony, and nearly 70 people fell through the opening into the basement.

Venue staff and wedding guests had already provided first aid and assistance to individuals by the time first responders arrived.

State Fire Marshal Sean Toomey and Tamworth Fire/Rescue Chief Richard Colcord announced a joint investigation into the incident.

"While the investigation is in its early stages, investigators believe the building was over capacity prior to the floor collapse," the fire marshal's office said.
