Mashpee Student Qualifies for State Seal Test for Wampanoag Biliteracy

For over 150  years, the Mashpee Wampanoag tribe, also known as the People of the First Light, didn't speak their language. They lost it in the mid-19th-century through religious conversion, laws against the use of the language, and mainstream education.

Recently, I spoke with Judith Urquhart and her daughter Alyssa Harris about the Wampanoag Language Reclamation Project.
