Cape Cod's first adult recreational marijuana store opened Wednesday in Provincetown.
It's called Curaleaf and about 30 people were in line when the doors opened around noon.
Local regulators granted Curaleaf final approval Tuesday night and less than 24-hours later, Provincetown resident Bobby Nichols made the first purchase. He bought 3/8s of a gram of a Curaleaf flower called Queen Mother Goji.
"I'm very glad that a place like this opened up," Nichols said. "We can now buy something legally and not have to be paranoid walking around the street looking out for the law."
President of Curaleaf Massachusetts Patrik Jonsson says he was excited to be finally opening. He expects to hire about 30 employees in Provincetown as sales ramp up.
Most of the patrons in line waiting to get inside Wednesday were from Provincetown, many saying the opening of the dispensary will benefit the local community and could dispell some myths about marijuana.
"I think it will bring a lot more tourism, and I think it will open up people's eyes," said Provincetown resident Jason Bryant. "People are going to say, 'You know what, it's not so bad.'"
Wednesday's opening was a soft launch. A grand opening is planned for February 6.
Curaleaf opened its first recreational dispensaries in Oxford, Massachusetts last year. The company plans to employ over 200 people with the opening of facilities around the state.
The Provincetown location had several items for sale Wednesday, including vape-pens, edibles, joints, and marijuana buds.
