Nantucket Offers 3 Million Reasons To Be Glad It's Spring: Best Bets for the Weekend

Nantucket Chamber of Commerce

Nantucket's Daffodil Festival Weekend has finally arrived (mid-February we were having doubts about the feasibility of spring). Just how many daffs will adorn the island for this 41st annual event? More than 3 million, according to the Nantucket Chamber of Commerce. With 10,000 visitors expected, that means about 300 daffodils per person - with plenty leftover of course for the dogs, the old time cars, and the lighthouse. More info on Festival events is here.

Looking for music this weekend? Local singer/songwriter Jordan Renzi is performing atHarvest Gallery Wine Bar in Dennis on Friday. And American roots music band Spuyten Duyvil is performing Saturday at Wellfleet Preservation Hall.

Back on Nantucket, the Historical Association opens a major new exhibit on Friday, "Stove By A Whale." It focuses on the sinking of the Nantucket whaleship Essex in 1820. Along with historical items, they've also got props from the soon-to-be-released movie based on Nathaniel Philbrick's book "In the Heart of the Sea." More info.

Steve Junker and Kathi Scrizzi Driscoll discuss upcoming events every Wednesday on All Things Considered. Audio of this week's conversation is posted above - give it a listen.
