Cape Transit Authority Offering Free Rides to COVID-19 Vaccination Sites

The Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority is offering free rides to COVID-19 vaccination sites for anyone who needs them, RTA Administrator Tom Cahir told CAI.

Rides are available to people who already have a vaccine appointment.

“We don’t want to be scheduling all kinds of rides when there's not enough doses to be distributed,” he said.

Individuals can make reservations by calling the regular Dial-A-Ride line, (800) 352-7155.

“We're doing all we can to provide any kind of transportation that's necessary for seniors,” Cahir said. “But the vaccinations [are] obviously something that's very important. And we want to be helpful there, too.”

He said he’s been talking with Barnstable County officials and the Cape Cod COVID-19 Response Task Force to see if the RTA can provide any organized transportation for vaccines beyond its standard Dial-A-Ride service.

“But we don't have a specific plan in place right now, other than, if people call us, we’ll take you where you need to go,” he said.
