Holiday Music

capesymphony.org

At this time of year we can be bombarded by Christmas music: it’s on the radio, in stores, and all too often stuck in our heads. If you’re growing weary of the same old songs, but still want to get into the holiday spirit, there are many opportunities for live musical performances. On The Point, we talk with the leaders of the  Cape Symphony and the Cape Cod Chamber Orchestra about the themes in their Holiday performances.

Artistic Director and Conductor of the Cape Symphony Jung Ho Pak tells us about the Cape Symphony Holiday Performance. This year they pay tribute to Bob Hope and his decades of radio and television special Christmas programs honoring troops overseas. A number of vocalists have also been invited to evoke the magic of Bing Crosby and the Andrews Sisters.

Founder and Conductor of Cape Cod Chamber Orchestra Matthew Scinto tells us about their Holiday concert "A Mostly English Holiday" that takes listeners across “the pond” for works inspired by English, Welsh and Italian composers.

We also speak with Cara Scinto, Memory Care Director at Maplewood Senior Living in Brewster about the benefits of music for people with Alzheimer’s or memory impairment. This concert is in part a benefit for the Alzheimer's Family Support Center of Cape Cod. It's on Sunday, December 15th, at 3:00 P.M. at the Pilgrim Congregational Church, Harwich Port.
