There are musicals about our founding fathers, cute orphans, the French Revolution... And now? There’s a musical about climate change. The Cape Cod Theater Company in Harwich is debuting the world premiere of “Crude: The Climate Change Musical.”

From the time he was six-years-old, Ketch Secor of Old Crow Medicine Show knew that playing fiddle and performing were going to be a part of his life. Secor speaks with Steve Junker about what it takes to go on tour, making music videos to be like little movies, how he was inspired to pick up the violin as a boy.

Faun Fables makes a rare Cape Cod appearance this week. The duo, Dawn McCarthy and Nils Frykdahl, create evocative soundscapes, both etheric and densely layered. Their performances are intimate and acoustic, with theatrics and puppetry. The married musical duo are touring with their three children, and encourage families to their shows. Our musical correspondent Matthias Bossi previews the show.

If you were asked to name a musical duo that has performed at the Presidential Inauguration, played at 3 NFL Superbowls, and collaborated with the likes of P. Diddy, Tom Petty, Aerosmith, Aretha Franklin, and The Eagles – you might be scratching your head.

That musical duo is called Black Violin. Their music combines elements of pop, blues, hip-hop, classical – and more.  They’re appearing at the Zeiterion Theater in New Bedford Friday, May 29.

Arlen Roth, guitarist extraordinaire and longtime part-time resident of Martha's Vineyard, came by the WCAI studios to talk about his new album, "Slide Guitar Summit." It features nine guest virtuoso slide guitarists, including David Lindley, Sonny Landreth, Cindy Cashdollar, and the last recorded session of the legendary Johnny Winter.

Here Come Banjos

Apr 10, 2015

They're modern traditionalists, a pair of banjo players with peerless chops and a love for ballads, gospel, blues, and music that takes you into unusual corners.  And Bela Fleck and Abigail Washburn are also married and touring behind their first album as a duo.  They bring their banjo mastery to our region with a pair of concert dates this week, at the Zeiterion Theater in New Bedford on April 12, and on Martha's Vineyard on April 15.

Chris Isaak has had plenty of careers already - moody crooner of the multi-platinum hit Wicked Game, actor in his own TV show, 50's revivalist rocker. So is there a chance one day he'll be publishing a book of his original cartoons? Maybe. When I spoke with him for All Things Considered, I asked Chris what he likes to do while touring.

Oh that voice! Dr. John claims foremost to be a pianist, master of boogie-woogie, blues, and Cajun swing - but it's his voice that makes him unforgettable. It's a honk, a growl, playful and tipsy and engagingly surly.
